STORY & VISION

The company was founded as Static Wave Studios of Canada Inc. on November 29th, 2010 by Denmark native Philip Laessoe and his Canadian partner, Dan LaPierre. Dan was actively promoting his music lessons on new online platforms and quickly grew a solid student count while working at the music store Long & McQuade in Surrey, BC. He was also seeking band members to form the best cover/party band in the city joined by lead singer Donna Benedicto. He also wanted to put together a shared teaching, recording and rehearsal studio location. His Danish co-worker from the music store, Philip Laessoe, had a similar vision, so they decided to team up and invite artists from their local network as well as live/session musicians and teachers to help bring the vision to life.

Around the same time, Philip had begun his process of immigrating to Canada and quickly realized the best way to land his Permanent Residence was to create a business that could aid in expanding his work experience in Canada via a renewal of his work permit. He and Dan LaPierre only had a few months to grow the new business before Philip's permit expired, so the first application by the company for a Labour Market Opinion exemption was not granted and Philip had to temporarily relocate back to Denmark for 6 months to prepare his return using a different approach; expanding his music production education. His temporary studio in Denmark, which was quickly established with the help of his best friend and music partner, Kristoffer Trautner, enabled him to work with a few Danish recording artists while reconnecting with his roots of playing live keyboards. The immigration challenge sparked a rapid increase in creativity and a growing passion to expand his business activities. He also embraced a hyper-competitive mindset that mentally prepared him for "immigration war". He successfully returned to Canada to further his studies into Electronic Music Production while growing his Canadian business, now also as a part-time live keyboardist. It was a time full of constant changes, high stress levels, worries, little sleep, long hours and seemingly never-ending obstacles fuelled by the tail-end of a difficult financial crisis period. Yet, the business, his studio and the music artists that were involved, formed a supportive and protective professional shell around him. By 2012, he graduated from his third-in-a-row audio and music production school and partnered with Champagne Republic band mate and realtor, Marty Majerski, when Dan decided to leave the company, move to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to get married and further his career overseas.

Philip Laessoe became the President / CEO of the company when Marty Majerski and their shared R&B/Soul band, Champagne Republic, disbanded as a result of Emily Chambers' choice to pursue a solo music artist career (her first EP was actually co-written and pre-produced by Philip Laessoe). Philip then teamed up with Dennis Law from Noisyhouse Music Productions and moved Static Wave Studios to a big shared facility in Ironwood of southern Richmond, BC in 2018. Philip Laessoe and Static Wave Studios did pre-production and demos for Champagne Republic, Emily Chambers, Anqi Sun, Detra, Fernanda Maleski, Marlie Collins and other upcoming music artists. Many of the live bands for these artists were also directed or co-fronted by him. However, during the Covid pandemic, Static Wave Studios of Canada Inc. was rendered inactive, sold all assets and temporarily shut down all operations. A much needed reset that gave Philip Laessoe time to reorganize, reflect, heal and get back in touch with his... SOUL.

During this time, Philip Laessoe set up a powerful new project studio by the name of SonicShape, in a convenient Vancouver-based location where he could host online sessions and lessons, sound design and offer foundational artist development and music production services. In 2021, as Covid was coming to an end, SonicShape expanded to operate out of a second (main) location in Richmond, BC, partnering up with long-term friend and school mate Ming Lian as well as Sabrina Yuan from MMS (May's Music School). As the partnership grew and changed, the inactive Static Wave business entity was ready to transform into "Soul Wave Studios Inc." as of February 2023, now integrating aspects of soul awakening and astrology. Philip Laessoe's journey of immigrating to Canada, navigating a hyper-competitive music industry and the relationships that followed, catalyzed multiple spiritual awakenings, ego deaths, and later on, his internally life changing monadic soul awakening. As of Jan 1st, 2026, the company and studios operate under the name "LAE Studios". This change was done to connect the recently renamed divisions of LAESoul (soul-related) and LAESonic (artist-related) to the business name.

MISSION

Our motto is "Step Into Your Light". This refers to the individual musician, artist or student embracing and aligning with their true colours, shine, charisma and core talent. In our opinion, regardless of positive or negative life experiences, everyone is a beautiful soul with a unique aura. Our souls are eternal waves of consciousness and our natural state of being. An intelligent vibration that observes and experiences. We all have a mind - a processing unit that determines the good and the bad. Our emotional state fluctuates accordingly, and that is essential for us in our experience of duality. Too often, however, it becomes a limiting factor that can lower our natural expression due to fear and societal programming. LAE Studios takes a genuine soul into perspective through the lens of art, music or spirituality. We help people find their way back to their original authentic state of self while inspiring, motivating and developing their sense of creativity, expression and performance skills.
